ANNOUNCEMENT - Clinic set to open After nearly two years in the planning stages, WNY's first dedicated high-volume low-cost spay/neuter clinic is set to open its doors! Called Operation PETS (www.OperationPETS.org), the clinic will provide sterilization for dogs, cats, and rabbits residing with low-income families as well as for shelters and rescue groups.
At the present time, the clinic is operating at limited capacity and servicing animal welfare groups as part of the mandatory training period. The clinic is expected to be open to the general public some time early Fall. For those who work with feral cats, Feral Cat Focus (www.FeralCatFocus.com) will also be organizing clinics specifically for informed caregivers of feral cats (those who follow Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Release protocols). The full spay/neuter service bundle for dogs and cats will include a health check, sterilization, vaccinations (distemper and rabies), worming, and flea treatment. For rabbits, the bundle will include health check and sterilization. A few optional services (for example FIV/FeLV testing) will be offered for a small additional fee. Although the exact price structure is still being "tweaked" and will depend on volume and efficiencies, the cost for adult dogs is expected to be under $100, cats and rabbits under $50, and feral cats even less. Members of AAWNY's Spay/Neuter Committee have worked hard to make the clinic a reality. The clinic is modeled after the program operated by the Humane Alliance of Asheville, North Carolina (www.HumaneAlliance.org). Kudos to the Alliance, members of the committee, and especially to the staff and volunteers of the new Operation PETS clinic! Operation PETS: The Spay/Neuter Clinic of Western New York, Inc.
